Othello High School's FFA chapter in Moses Lake is evolving beyond traditional livestock shows to emphasize leadership, public speaking, and career readiness in agriculture, according to teacher Chris Baginski.
Baginski noted that while FFA members still participate in events like the Grant County Fair, the program now includes competitions in areas such as extemporaneous speaking, job interviews, and ag education, with students gaining skills like public speaking and teamwork. Participants like Cayla Hampton and Greyson Sams highlighted how the program has helped them develop communication skills and build community connections, with Hampton stating, 'People think it’s just animals and farming, but there’s public speaking that you do.'
