Groff Elementary Reopens After $16. 5M Repairs

Groff Elementary School in Moses Lake will reopen for the 2026-27 school year after more than a year of closure, with a community ribbon-cutting event scheduled for Monday, Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. The school closed in March 2025 due to facility concerns, and approximately $16.5 million in repairs have been completed, including structural corrections, electrical system repairs, HVAC replacements, and exterior work. The district stated students in grades 1–5 will return to Groff on Sept. 2, with kindergarten students returning Sept. 8–9. The reopening follows a year of temporary learning arrangements at other district schools. The district is also pursuing litigation to recover the full cost of repairs. The event will include a facility tour, and a fact sheet detailing the repairs and timeline is available on the district website.
