🔊 Listen · narrated by Aiden

Trino Mendez, 36, was taken into custody Thursday afternoon in connection with a hit-and-run that injured a county road worker early Thursday, according to Grant County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Kyle Foreman.

The incident occurred around 5:10 a.m. on North Frontage Road near Dodson Road, where a 49-year-old Moses Lake man was struck while road crews prepared for chip sealing. Mendez stopped, walked to the injured worker, then drove off. His vehicle, with a teal and gray spray-painted grille, was left at the scene. Mendez provided a false name but was identified via fingerprints.

The victim was taken to Samaritan Hospital; his condition was unknown Friday. Foreman noted that road workers face ongoing risks from distracted drivers.
