Moses Lake Hosts Water Planning Meeting

πŸ”Š Listen Β· narrated by Aiden

State and local officials met in Moses Lake on Tuesday to discuss water use planning as part of a statewide initiative. Department of Ecology Director Casey Sixkiller led the meeting, which was the second in a series across Washington. The meeting included city officials from Moses Lake, Quincy, and Othello.

Sixkiller stated the initiative, launched by Gov. Bob Ferguson, aims to address ongoing drought conditions and long-term water availability concerns. He emphasized the need for collaboration rather than top-down solutions, citing climate change impacts such as reduced snowpack that affect water supply. "We wanted this initiative to begin by listening and bringing folks together," Sixkiller said.

Moses Lake Mayor Dustin Swartz praised the collaborative approach, calling the meeting "a fruitful endeavor." State officials plan to incorporate feedback from the meetings into a statewide water plan, with additional sessions scheduled for public input.
