Quincy Aquatic Center Seeks More Lifeguards

Quincy Recreation Director Russ Harrington reported that the new Quincy Aquatic Center has seen 3,100 patrons in its first 12 days of operation, including 750 season pass holders and 250 children in swim lessons.

The facility is currently maxing out capacity due to a shortage of lifeguards, with officials noting they've had to turn away visitors during peak times. Harrington stated the city has 12-15 lifeguards on duty during busy periods but needs more to accommodate growing demand.

City officials are actively seeking more lifeguard candidates, with a training program requiring seven hours of online work and 30 hours of in-person training. Of 25 initial applicants, 13 did not complete the certification process. The city is offering additional training classes to meet staffing needs.
