Sheriff Candidates Clash Over Leadership, Lawsuit

πŸ”Š Listen Β· narrated by Aiden

Sheriff Joey Kriete and challenger Darrik Gregg debated leadership issues, a deputy sheriffs' association vote of no confidence, and a lawsuit at a Grant County Republican Party event on Sept. 10.

Kriete described reassigning former chief deputy Josh Sainsbury in January as his most difficult leadership decision, citing the need to prioritize community interests over personal relationships. Gregg, who left the sheriff's office in 2021 after disagreeing with leadership decisions, said he challenged those decisions to uphold his oath as a deputy. Both candidates agreed on cooperating with federal agencies on criminal investigations involving immigration.

The debate occurred ahead of the Nov. 5 general election, with both candidates emphasizing their law enforcement experience and commitment to community safety.
