The Warden City Council appointed Joseph Elizalde as assistant city administrator during a July 28 meeting, effective Aug. 3. Elizalde will train under retiring city administrator Kriss Shuler, who plans to retire after 36 years of service on Sept. 1. Elizalde will assume the city administrator role Nov. 1.
Elizalde, a Warden native who worked for the Warden School District for 10 years, said he aims to serve as a communication bridge between residents, city staff, and officials. Mayor Rosaelia Martinez praised Elizalde as 'young, smart, computer savvy' and expressed confidence in his ability to succeed. Shuler noted Elizalde's experience managing public-sector projects and budgets, calling him the strongest candidate during hiring.
